The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics granted Ashley Smith the highest honor given to undergraduates, the Senior Merit Award.
​
The award recognizes Ashley's academic prowess, achievements in research, professional and civic engagement, community involvement, the excellence demonstrated in internships and employment, and the many deserved awards and honors in her field.
​
We could not imagine anyone more deserving than the wonderfully kind and remarkably intelligent Ashley Smith. Way to go, Ashley! The lab can not wait to see what you have in store for the world!

The Society for Neuroscience TAMIN Spring Symposium awards Vipin Jagrit and Ashley Smith for their research excellence
The Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience hosted the annual Society for Neuroscience Spring Symposium. The symposium brings together a collation of scientists working to improve the lives of those suffering from a neurological injury or disease.

​Among hundreds of fantastic presenters, Vipin and Ashley were awarded for their innovative research approach, deep understanding, and ability to communicate their remarkable research.
​
In the Undergraduate Poster Presentation category Ashley Smith receives 3rd place.

In the Graduate Oral Presentation category Vipin Jagrit receives 1st place.

Freshman undergraduate student, Kathryn Anderson, presented her poster at the Biology Undergraduate Research Symposium. Working under graduate student Akram Esfandani on the neuroimmunne mechanisms of male infertility following spinal cord injury, she shared their findings in her excellent presentation. Ashley Smith wins 1st at the Texas A&M SACNAS Chapter Symposium: Diversity in Science
The Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) TAMU Chapter aims to prepare students, especially minorities, to excel in their undergraduate careers, to be qualified to continue into graduate school or professional school and to earn high-level career opportunities. The symposium not only positively impacts the community of underrepresented scientists on campus, but it also highlights Texas A&M science to a broad audience of Aggies.

Ashley Smith is recognized with the Best Science Presentation Award at the University of Texas at Austin CARE Research Day
Cellular to Clinically Applied Rehabilitation Research and Engineering (CARE) fourth annual Research Day aims to feature scientists who align with their mission statement:
"promoting multidisciplinary research in rehabilitation, bridging mechanotransduction at the cellular level to emerging innovations at the clinical level, with the objectives of repairing or replacing damaged or diseased tissue coupled with activity-based approaches to restore function."

Craig H. Neilsen Foundation funds Akram Esfandani's important research
Craig H. Neilsen Foundation's funding supports research improving the quality of life of those living with a spinal cord injury. This will advance Akram's research in reproductive health following spinal cord injury. Congratulations Akram!

Anjali Agrawal awarded Wings for Life grant!
Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation's mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. This award will facilitate Anjali's doctoral work in the role of neural progenitor cell graft composition in enhancing functional recovery following spinal cord injury. Congratulations Anjali!

In this article, Dr. Dulin talks about the research her and her team are currently doing. She discusses the main goal of her work, and sees a hopeful future in using Neuroscience to find treatments for spinal cord injury.

Valerie published her work titled "Dorsal horn neuronal sparing predicts the development of at-level mechanical allodynia following cervical spinal cord injury in mice" in the Journal of Experimental Neurology Congratulations to Valerie and her team of undergraduates who are co-authors on this paper: Katelyn Knox, Sherilynne Moore, Nolan Roberts and lab alumni Karla Kassandra Corona! Ashley Tucker was awarded a prestigious Wings for Life Grant!
Congratulations to Ashley Tucker who has received a grant from the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation.
​
The purpose of the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation grant is to promote basic and clinical research related to spinal cord injury (SCI) with the perspective to improve outcomes after injury. This award will facilitate Ashley's doctoral work in mapping integration of transplanted neurons within locomotor circuitry following SCI.
​

Kass Corona won 2nd place at TAMU Student Research Week!
Kass presented her poster, "Variability in anatomical and behavioral outcomes following cervical hemicontusion SCI in mice," at the 22nd Annual Texas A&M Student Research Week. She got perfect scores from both judges and won 2nd place in the College of Science! Great job Kass!
